How to use this product

ON BARE WOOD

Sand bare wood with 120-grit for hardwoods: oak, maple, ash, yellow birch, cherrywood, walnut, and acacia. Use 150-grit sandpaper for softwoods: pine, birch, fir, spruce, cedar, larch, and hemlock.
Remove sanding dust with a cloth or a vacuum. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, dirt and dust.
Mix well before and during application.
Apply the stain evenly to the surface using a brush or soft cloth,wait 5–10 minutes, then wipe off the excess with a clean, soft cloth.
Leave the surface as is to achieve a matte to satin finish. The product contains an integrated wax that provides adequate protection for low-traffic surfaces. To increase the sheen, the surface may be polished. If additional protection and/or a different sheen is desired, apply a SAMAN water-based varnish after a minimum drying time of 8 hours.

Recommendation

Do not use steel wool to sand the project.
Finer grits of paper will give a paler shade
of the chosen color.
Perform a pre-test on a discreet part of the project and with the chosen finish, to check if the color matches expectations. The POS will highlight the contrast of the wood grain and the stain will penetrate deeply.

ON A WATER-BASED OR OIL-BASED PRIMER

Remove sanding dust with a cloth and clean the surface with SAMAN’s TSPeco (degreaser). The surface must be clean and dry before applying the stain.
Make sure to bring the surface back to bare wood by using sandpaper or a paint/finish stripper to remove the existing finish. If a stripper is used, carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Mix well before and during application.
Apply the stain evenly to the surface using a brush or soft cloth,wait 5–10 minutes, then wipe off the excess with a clean, soft cloth.
Leave the surface as is to achieve a matte to satin finish. The product contains an integrated wax that provides adequate protection for low-traffic surfaces. Our wood oil is compatible with most products on the market. We recommend cleaning the surface beforehand with eco-friendly TSP and always performing a test in an inconspicuous area before full application.

Can I use this wood oil on a patio?

No, this product is designed for interior use only and is not recommended for outdoor surfaces such as patios.

Can penetrating oil be applied to a wooden kitchen countertop?

This penetrating oil for wood is not intended for butcher blocks. However, if the wooden kitchen countertop is not used for cutting food directly, it can be safely oiled.

How often should I reapply oil to an oiled wood surface?

There is no fixed timeframe, as the longevity of wood oil depends on the environment and how the surface is used. To check whether an oiled wood surface needs reapplication, perform a simple test: place a drop of water on the surface. If it beads after one minute, the protection is still effective. If not, it’s time to reapply the oil.

Can I apply any varnish over my existing varnish?

Our water-based varnish is compatible with our products. However, we cannot guarantee compatibility with varnishes from other brands, as their components may react and alter the wood finish.

How should an oiled wood surface be cleaned?

To maintain optimal protection and extend the life of the wood oil, we recommend using the Saman Légende FOC-000-800 cleaner to properly clean and care for oiled wood surfaces.
