How to use this product

ON BARE WOOD

Sand bare wood with 120-grit for hardwoods: oak, maple, ash, yellow birch, cherrywood, walnut, and acacia. Use 150-grit sandpaper for softwoods: pine, birch, fir, spruce, cedar, larch, and hemlock.
Remove sanding dust with a cloth or a vacuum. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, dirt and dust.
If required, stain the wood with SAMAN WWS.
Mix thoroughly by gently stirring. Do not shake.
Apply uniformly 2 or 3 coats along the wood grain. Sand lightly between coats. A light sanding with 180 or 220 grit sandpaper is recommended between the two last coats.
Let the surfaces completely dry and wait at least 30 days before cleaning.

Recommendation

Allow the product to reach room temperature before application. Apply the product at room temperature between 59°F/15°C and 77°F/25°C with a relative humidity rate between 40 and 75%.
Do not use steel wool to sand the project.
An adhesion test is recommended before applying the product to the entire project.
Wait 24 hours before allowing light traffic on the final coat. The curing process takes approximately 30 days (75% cured after one day, 90% after 3 days, 100% after 30 days, 10 days if catalyzed). Place rugs after two weeks.

ON A WATER-BASED OR OIL-BASED PRIMER

Sand the surface with 220-grit sandpaper to create proper adhesion.
Remove sanding dust with a cloth or a vacuum and clean the surface with SAMAN’s TSPeco(degreaser). Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, dirt and dust.
If required, stain the wood with SAMAN WWS.
Mix thoroughly by gently stirring. Do not shake.
Apply uniformly 2 or 3 coats along the wood grain. Sand lightly between coats. A light sanding with 180 or 220 grit sandpaper is recommended between the two last coats.

What is the difference between a matte, satin, and gloss wood varnish?

The difference between wood varnish finishes lies in their level of sheen:

Matte: 5% to 9%
Satin: 31% to 39%
Semi-gloss: 51% to 59%
Gloss: 91% to 95%

The higher the percentage, the shinier and more reflective the finish.

What type of wood varnish is recommended for floors versus furniture?

Wait 7 days for tung oil;
Wait 6 to 8 hours for penetrating oils.

For products from other brands, a compatibility test is always recommended.

Does Saman wood varnish yellow over time?

No, Saman wood varnishes do not yellow over time. However, some woods, such as pine, may naturally yellow with age, and wood oxidation can also occur.
