FAQ

The difference between wood varnish finishes lies in their level of sheen:

  • Matte: 5% to 9%
  • Satin: 31% to 39%
  • Semi-gloss: 51% to 59%
  • Gloss: 91% to 95%

The higher the percentage, the shinier and more reflective the finish.

Saman floor varnishes can also be used on wood furniture. They offer excellent resistance and enhanced durability, making them suitable for a wide range of projects.

Yes, if the products are from Saman, there are no compatibility issues, provided the following waiting times are respected:

  • Wait 2 hours after applying an oil- or water-based stain before applying a water-based varnish;
  • Wait 7 days for tung oil;
  • Wait 6 to 8 hours for penetrating oils.

For products from other brands, a compatibility test is always recommended.

No, Saman wood varnishes do not yellow over time. However, some woods, such as pine, may naturally yellow with age, and wood oxidation can also occur.

A water-based wood varnish is a protective coating whose main solvent is water rather than oil or alcohol. Saman varnishes are reinforced with acrylic and polyurethane resins, providing excellent durability without health-related drawbacks.

Water-based varnishes offer very low VOC emissions, fast drying times, and minimal odor. Thanks to the modern technologies used by Saman, they deliver performance comparable to, or even superior to, oil-based varnishes.

Water-based varnishes can be applied using a high-quality brush, a 5 to 6 mm lint-free roller, or an applicator pad to achieve a smooth, long-lasting finish.

Whether for floors, wood furniture, or decorative woodwork, Saman offers the right wood varnish for every project. To make the best choice, consult the product catalog on the Saman website or ask your retailer for advice.
