WATERBASED WOOD STAIN

SKU
WWS-0

Achieve beautiful, even color with just one coat. This fast-drying stain is easy to apply and requires no pre-stain conditioner. It does not raise the wood grain and ensures a smooth, overlap-free finish.

The stain can be reactivated, making it forgiving of application errors. Top coating is mandatory, as any moisture will leave marks on unprotected stain.

Ideal for indoor wood surfaces, including bare wood, plywood, OSB, walls, ceilings, cabinets, moldings, doors, furniture, wood projects, or artistic creations. Suitable for primed surfaces such as moldings, doors, and baskets.

How to use this product

01

  1. Sand bare wood with 120-grit for hardwoods: oak, maple, ash, yellow birch, cherrywood, walnut, and acacia. Use 150-grit sandpaper for softwoods: pine, birch, fir, spruce, cedar, larch, and hemlock.
  2. Remove sanding dust with a cloth or a vacuum. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of wax, grease, dirt and dust.
  3. Mix the stain thoroughly before use.
  4. Put a small quantity of stain onto the sponge and rub with
the wood grain. Wipe away the excess with a soft, clean cloth.
Work on small sections at a time to avoid allowing the stain to
    dry between applications.
  5. Allow the stain to dry thoroughly before applying a clear finish.

Recommendation

  • Finer grits sandpaper will give a paler shade
    of the chosen color
  • Do not use steel wool to sand the project.
  • Apply only one single coat. The waterbased woos stain is formulated
to limit overlapping marks. It reactivates when passed over and makes applying a second coat impossible. Applying a second coat does not make the color darker.
  • The desired color must be chosen
considering the application of only one coat.
  • It is preferable, but not mandatory , to wait 24 hours before applying a topcoat.
Humidity, ambient temperature, and air circulation must be controlled
    during application and drying..

FAQ

Uneven stain absorption is often due to irregular sanding. When the wood pores are not opened uniformly, the stain penetrates differently in different areas, resulting in uneven coloration.

To achieve a consistent result, make sure to:

  • Change the sandpaper regularly to maintain its effectiveness,
  • Apply constant pressure while sanding,
  • Always follow the direction of the wood grain,
  • Work board by board for optimal control.

These precautions ensure an even stain and a professional-quality finish.

Saman wood stains are designed for effortless, flawless coverage. With superior opacity and no risk of lap marks, they usually require just one coat. Staining wood, furniture, or trim has never been easier!

Yes, Saman furniture stain is ready to use straight out of the can. You can also mix different colors to create an endless range of custom shades; ask your retailer for guidance.

The difference between water-based wood stain and oil-based stains mainly lies in their composition, appearance, and application requirements. Visually, water-based stains tend to provide a more even, consistent color, while oil-based stains offer greater depth and richness, enhancing the natural grain of the wood.

In both cases, applying a protective finish is essential to ensure the durability of the result. It’s also important to consider the entire process: surface preparation, safety precautions, the desired outcome, and drying time.

Yes. All Saman wood stains are specially formulated for use without a pre-stain wood conditioner. Their optimized formula ensures even absorption and a high-quality finish; no extra steps required.

Yes, Saman stain works with most wood species, including maple, pine, oak, and many others. However, since each type of wood has its own porosity and absorption characteristics, it’s always recommended to perform a test on a small area first, for both the stain and the finish. This ensures an optimal, perfectly tailored result.

A 4-liter container of Saman stain covers approximately 800 square feet, depending on the specific product, the wood type, and the application technique.

Coverage may vary slightly based on wood porosity and the number of coats applied, but this provides a reliable reference for planning your project.

Yes, an oil-based finish can be applied over a water-based Saman wood stain. However, if using a finish from another brand, a compatibility test is strongly recommended to ensure proper adhesion, finish stability, and harmony between the two products for a durable, flawless result.

Yes, the final color of your Saman wood stain may differ from the in-store sample. Samples are often applied on a different wood species, which can naturally affect absorption and the final shade. To achieve the exact result you want, always test the stain on a small, inconspicuous area before completing your project.

For water-based Saman wood stains, we recommend using a sponge, such as the one included in our Kit 60-002, for even application and precise control. Brushes can also be used. Cotton rags are not recommended, as they absorb too much product and may result in an uneven finish.

Saman stain is suitable for a wide range of wooden surfaces, including

  • Furniture,
  • Doors,
  • Countertops,
  • Moldings,
  • Railings,
  • Stairs.

It delivers a uniform, durable finish while highlighting the natural texture and color of the wood.

Saman wood stain is specially designed for interior projects.

It can also be used on small exterior projects, provided it is properly protected with an appropriate outdoor finish. This protection ensures durability, weather resistance, and preserves the appearance of the stain.

No, Saman water-based stain adheres effectively not only to bare wood but also to a suitable primer, providing flexibility depending on your project and the finish you want.
